Cultural Competency

We help to advise clients on how best to understand, empathise with and communicate to people of diverse backgrounds. Our approach to the use of Te Reo and Te Ao Māori elements in design and language involves engaging with stakeholders, iwi and other cultural custodians early and often.

Many of our senior staff come from leadership roles in large traditional agencies and have worked on several well-known public awareness campaigns. Individually and collectively our staff have a wealth of experience working with government departments. Our Creative Director Jamie Patterson and Senior Art Director John Arrillaga have worked together with clients like the EQC, Ministry of Education’s School Trustees Association, Ngāi Tahu, Canterbury University, Otago University and the Manukau Institute of Technology to name a few. Jamie and John have been the brains behind MIT’s Where the Best Makers Are Made campaign and the EQC's long-term Fix, Fasten, Don't Forget campaign.

More recently, the team at Ambitious have worked with Hauora Taiwhenua, New Zealand’s Rural Health Network, to successfully recruit international doctors to our shores and are currently engaged in rebranding the Public Sector’s membership body. You can view examples of some of this work below.
